Doggy Accident Clean Up

Our dogs rarely ever have accidents in our home, but today Leo's stomach must be upset because this morning when I woke up there was a huge mess in the livingroom, and this afternoon upon returning home from the store there was another mess, and this time I made Jason clean it up. Here was his makeshift solution to help block the smell, lol!

And while I'm sitting here on the bed typing in this space Mattie is relaxing on Jason's pillow, lol.

Morning Sky

This is the wonderful view I woke up to this morning, and had I not taken so long to find my camera the sky was actually more orange in color.

My family and I long for the day when we can see a beautiful view of the sky out in the country or woods. Living this close to this many people just isn't our kind of living, we feel crowded and people are always sticking their noses into other peoples business, (and it's usually over the smallest and silliest things). And recently I've even had a parent complain about my boys climbing trees, really?? They were being safe and climbing a tree that was strong enough for them the climb on, so what in the world is so wrong with a child climbing a tree?? One day, soon enough, we'll have our homestead and the boys can climb and explore all they want without anyone trying to sway them to do otherwise.

Veggie Noodle Bowl

One night this past week as I was thumbing through a cookbook I came across a recipe for a vegetarian dish that looked really good, so I just added chicken instead of tofu and it turned out great! I for one, like tofu, and my boys don't mind it, but my husband on the other hand doesn't care for it at all.Otherwise I would have made the recipe with tofu. Some people are picky, lol.

How the boys felt about their first day of school

This afternoon the boys came home from their first day of school and I had brownies and ice-cream waiting for them...boy were they thrilled! I decided to write in this space the boys' answers to my questions about their first day of school. (I mainly did this for their Grandmas and other close relatives.) Some of their responses are comical...

How was your first day of school?

Austin: "Good. Most of my friends were there."

Kennon: "Ok, but some of the kids from last year were kind of being mean."

Ian: "Awesome!" (-Coming from the child who was being so difficult this morning)

What do you think about your homeroom teacher?

Austin: "Boring. He's a new teacher and didn't even have our desks clean. There was syrup
on the corner of my desk and I kept getting it on my elbow."

Kennon: "I don't know. He's a busy man because he gave us all these papers!"

Ian: "She's awesome! She makes a whole bunch of jokes, and I think she's the best!"

What subject do you think will be your favorite?

Austin: "So far, Literacy because it's the easiest and I know the teacher, but the History teacher
              was the funniest."

Kennon: "Computer because I get to learn how to use the computer better."

Ian: "Reading because it's easier than math."

What was your favorite part of your school day?

Austin: "Finally going to lunch because I was STARVING!" (He ate breakfast at home)

Kennon: "Seeing my friends from last year."

Ian: "Having an extra recess."

End of Day Reflections

Recently, I've restarted an old nightly ritual for myself...once all my kiddos are in their beds, I sit down with my cup of chamomile tea and a paper where I write down all of the positive happenings from the day. I actually had a psychology professor in college who encouraged us to do this every night, and I just recently came across the notebook I used to jot down these notes, and remembered how refreshing and relaxing it was for my mind and soul to do this every night.

With all the negativity in our world today such as, the economy not doing well, people having difficulty finding jobs/paying bills, and the increase in crimes and violence,  I felt this was something that I needed to start doing again in order to find more balance in my life.

It can be easy at times to fall into the role of being a complainer and/or Mr./Mrs. Negativity, which by doing the positive reflections at the end of the day helps me refrain from becoming that annoying complainer to my family and friends. As my Grandpa would sometimes say to us kids, "Nobody likes a complainer!"

I hope that this may inspire you to find more positivity in your daily life.

First Day of the 2011-2012 School year

Well, today was the first day of school for my boys, and only one of them was looking forward to starting today. Austin's attitude would make you believe that he doesn't care either way, but I know he's excited about seeing some of his friends that he hadn't seen all summer long. This is Kennon's first year in Middle School, so he was pretty excited, whereas Ian, who's still in Elementary School, SO didn't want to go to school today, which surprises me considering he's such a social butterfly.

This morning I did find it refreshing to hear Austin giving Kennon big brotherly advice on what to wear to school and how to behave on the bus and at school. It made my heart melt because they normally fight like cats and dogs. Hopefully this is a sign of a stronger and happier relationship between them.

Today, I found myself having some difficultly adjusting to the oh-so-quiet home because I'd become use to the constant chatter and laughter. Then, when it came to lunch time I found myself planning a lunch for 4 having forgotten that I'm the only one here. And Ian did have one request, which was what we negotiated in order to get him up and going for school this morning... homemade brownies. So, this afternoon before they return home I'll have a fresh batch of brownies waiting for them. I can't wait for my boys to come home to tell me about their day and what they think about their classes and teachers.

I know not every school district starts today, but when your child's school season does start I hope your kiddo(s) have a wonderful first day of school!

Dog Park

Sunday morning we took our fur-babies to the Dog Park here on Post. Mattie never strays far from us, so shes usually not on a leash anyways, but Leo...he seemed to think we took him off the leash by accident. He kept running around as thou he was trying to taunt us, and if he could talk he would have been saying, Ha! Ha! You can't catch me!

After we left and came back home, both Mattie and Leo were so worn out that they both napped for several hours.

Baseball Time

On Saturday we decided to take the boys to the ballparks, and everyone had a great time
playing on a field for a change
